The Dances we do are traditional-style social dances that you would find at a Barn Dance or Ceilidh. Our group caters for all levels of dancers, expert and novice. Each dance is "called through", so why not call in on one of the groups meetings at 8.00 pm., and have a go? Or ring 0151 652 4479 or 0151 339 8854 for more details. See also our listing in http://www.communigate.co.uk/chesh/englishfolkdance/ English Folk or Country Dancing covers a wide variety of dance types, from what some might call Barn Dancing or Ceilidhs, to more formal dances from dancing masters of the 18th century or earlier. There is also an American influence, as English Country Dancing was taken across by early settlers, became popular in New England and Canada, and there developed in its own way, and some were brought back to England. Line Dancing is not included as this is something completely different. We dance to both recorded and live music - the evenings are actually half and half. usually mixing the two forms during each evening. We welcome all to join us whether you are experienced dancers or complete beginners. All dances are "walked through" to ensure people are familiar with the moves, and then they are "called" during the dance. The objective is to enjoy the music and dance and have some fun in a social gathering. There is no joining fee nor annual subscription but just a small charge of £2.00 each evening you attend, and this includes light refreshments. There is no bar. This folk dance club organises Saturday night dances once or twice a year, with a live band and caller. Our Secretary Mary Smith 0151 652 4479 would be happy to provide more details. |
