TRY A NEW WAY OF KEEPING FIT

IF YOU HAVE NEVER TRIED SCOTTISH DANCING BEFORE,
WHY NOT COME AND ENJOY NOT ONLY THE DANCING,
BUT ALSO THE HEALTH, FUN AND EXERCISE BENEFITS AND SOCIALISING THAT IS GAINED FROM REGULAR DANCING.
There is a strong social emphasis and the objective is to dance with as many different people as possible.
It is not necessary to have a partner; come along on your own, or with a friend be it male or female, everyone is welcome.
Dancers are in couples and the dance is performed with other couples and is called a 'SET'. A set is usually in a line or a square . The dancers move round the set in patterns called formations.
Scottish dancing is a great way to meet new friends, have a good time, with lots of laughs and also keep fit in body and mind!
Dress is smart casual, and as a newcomer all that we ask is for you to wear a very soft shoe. If you decide after a few weeks that Scottish dancing is for you then you are required to wear the appropriate dance shoes.

HOW TO FIND US ;
CHRIST THE KING PRIMARY SCHOOL.
Turn off Queens Drive into Thingwall Road at Christ the King / Rocky Lane traffic lights. Then first left into Fieldway, and (carefully) straight across Meadway into the school grounds.
Bus routes 81 and 61 stop close to these traffic lights.

ST COLUMBA'S CHURCH HALL, HUNTS CROSS
From central Liverpool, and M62, follow Queens Drive ring road south to the ALLERTON ROUNDABOUT and take first exit, Menlove Avenue. At Asda Lights, turn left. Then remember to slip left JUST BEFORE Hunts Cross lights.

SPRING TERM 2009
Wed 7th Jan to Wed 1st April ; (half-term 18th Feb 2008)
twelve weeks at £4, or £44 for the whole term.

SUMMER TERM 2009. at St Columba's Church Hall, Hunts Cross .
; Wed 22nd April - 1st July 2009, (Mid-term 27th May,)
nine weeks at £3, or £24 for the whole term.
and we invite other teachers to come for a week or two.

SPECIAL EVENTS;

Our VALENTINE'S DANCE on SATURDAY 14TH FEB, 2009

PALM HOUSE DANCING; we hope to have another session of dance in the beautiful Palm House in Sefton Park.
, ideally on late AUGUST Bank Holiday, Monday 31st August 2009.
Probably 12.30 - 4.00.

SUMMER DANCE Saturday 27th June

A.G.M. 2009 will be on Wed 10th June 2009 at 7.15 pm, followed by dancing.

Where and When?
Adult Classes are held in Christ The King Primary School, Meadway, Wavertree Garden Suburb, Liverpool 15.
This is just off the ring road, Queens Drive, between the "Rocket" and the "Five Ways" pubs, behind the R.C. Church of Christ the King.
Adult classes are on Wednesday evenings;
the Basics class is 7.00 - 8.15, (and there are usually quite a few experienced dancers on hand who will help as well).
TheAdvanced/Social Class (for more experienced dancers) is from 8.30 -9.50.

This system operates for the Autumn and Spring Terms. In the Summer Term, we have one combined evening session, 7.30 - 9.45p.m., when those who were beginners, along with the experienced dancers, join together for social dancing, typically including the learning of the dances which will feature in our Summer Dance.
The Venue for the Summer Term dancing is St. Columba's church, Hunts Cross.

 How much? Membership is £20 per year,
Of this, £15 goes to RSCDS headquarters and £5 stays with the local branch for admin purposes.
The weekly class fee is £3 for absolute beginners,£4 for experienced dancers.
Payment in advance for a full term entitles you to one free class during that term.
Students in full time education still pay the headquarters fee (£15) but only pay 50% of our local branch class fees.
During the Summer Term fees will only be £3 per class .
If you are not sure about joining, just come along for up to three weeks and pay the class fee only.

The People who make it happen.

Hazel Astle is again Chairing our meetings. She also teaches the Adult Basics class.
Gillian Laycock is our Branch Secretary.
Helen Dorrington is still Treasurer.
Margaret Palmer is the teacher for the Adult Advanced Classes, and organises our catering activity.
Committee Members from AGM 2007 , (minimum six) include the officers above and Brian and Francine Keeley, Irene Lunt, Ken Maudsley and Margaret Palmer, . Jean Baker, (Gerry Jones retired from the committee in summer 2008)

In this Branch, the Chair runs our meetings, and for us the Presidency and Vice-Presidency of our Branch are posts of honour, in recognition of long and valued service to our Branch. Our Honorary President is John Baker and our Honorary Vice-President is Eric Astle.


COMMITTEE MEETING. The next meeting will be on Tues 28th April 2009 at 7.30 .

PALM HOUSE 2009 DANCE
This will be on Bank Holiday Monday 26th AUGUST 2009,
from 12.30 - 4.00pm unless advised otherwise.

This is an open event, and we hope that branch members, other scottish dancers, members of the public, and indeed other folk-dance groups will come and join in.

From our Branch point of view, it has proved a good way of showing people what our dancing is all about, it helps us recruit new members, and is a very pleasant way to spend a Bank Holiday afternoon.

On Monday .26th May 2008. we had a similar very enjoyable and successful afternoon, to round off the weekend of our Capital of Culture Ball in St George's Hall, with the forecast showers holding off until we were home and dry, and looking after our feet!
All the seats in the Palm House were taken most of the time, and the dancing space was usually full occupied. This year, for various reasons the Mersey Morris Men were not able to participate. This meant we could put on more Scottish dances, and invite the general public to take part in a few more items.
